Computer Buddies (Youth Opportunity Grades 7-12)
Overview
Share your computer knowledge and skills with a young learner!
Help students in Grades 1 to 6 explore Internet safety, searching skills and Microsoft Office to develop life-long habits.
Program Goals
Computer Buddies is designed:
- To provide a safe and friendly environment for children to explore computer technology
- To provide an opportunity for youth volunteers to develop mentoring skills
- To increase awareness and use of library resources, services and programs
Length of the program
- 1.0 hour sessions for 8 weeks in the Fall/Winter
- 2.0 hour sessions over 5 consecutive days (Monday-Friday) in the Summer
Volunteer Qualifications
- Volunteers will be junior or high school students (grade 7 – grade 12)
- Volunteers will be reliable, have a positive attitude, good literacy and computer technology skills and enjoy working with children
- Volunteers will be good role models
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Attend volunteer orientation session
- Be a good role model for their buddy
- Follow the guidelines set out by the program coordinators
- Ensure that the participants have an enjoyable learning experience
Training
- One hour training session covering program materials, as well as roles and responsibilities of being a Calgary Public Library Volunteer
