Thanks to each and every Calgary Public Library volunteer!

With volunteer support and commitment we are able to bring library materials to those unable to visit the library, computer literacy skills to young children and seniors alike, language support to new Canadians, career support to job seekers, literacy and numeracy skills to children and adults, and so much more.

Thank you volunteers, for your dedication to the Library and for improving the lives of your fellow Calgarians!

Happy International Volunteer Day

In 1985, the United Nations General Assembly established International Volunteer Day (IVD) to commemorate the contributions and dedication of volunteers worldwide. Today, IVD is celebrated globally, by volunteers, voluntary organizations and by all those who benefit directly from the endless help of the volunteer.

In the last year our close to 1800 Calgary Public Library volunteers contributed over 38,000 hours to improving literacy, computer skills, language skills, career development and more for thousands of Calgarians.

Thank you to all the volunteers who donated their time to helping their fellow Calgarians at the Library!

The Shasta Daisy, a symbol of volunteerism.

Beginning in 1985, the United Nations International Volunteer Day (December 5) offers an opportunity to show appreciation for all volunteers who dedicate their valuable time and skills to their communities. The Calgary Public Library is extremely fortunate to be part of an extensive volunteer family – many of our volunteers being beyond compare.

In accordance with International Volunteer Day on December 5, 2009 the Calgary Public Library in conjunction with Volunteering with ESL Learners (VESL) will be celebrating through the Immigrant Experiences event. Immigrant Experiences will bring together volunteers from different organizations, sharing stories amongst new Canadians and volunteers.

The Calgary Public Library would like to extend this invitation to all current Calgary Public Library Volunteers. As this event requires registration please contact Christine Pinkney at 403.260.2632 or for more information.
