Read Letter Day offers children in daycares the opportunity to discover the joy of reading at an early age. Adult volunteers read one-on-one with the children in an effort to spark their interest in books, instilling confidence and genuine desire for lifelong learning.
Read Letter Day at Central library paired children from the Briar Hill Children's Program and the A.C.E. Child Development Centre with volunteers from the CCS Corporation. After a quick orientation on the state of children’s learning and literacy our volunteers were ready to meet our participants.
Stories were read amongst the nooks of the second floor. From books on buns to prairie dogs with fuzz, laughs and lessons were shared. After a quick snack, it was time for the children to return to their daycares. Each child was sent home with a tote containing a book (courtesy of CCS Corporation) and information on youth programs at the library.
Thank-you CCS Corporation for being part of Read Letter Day! Through your contribution, excitement about reading has been ignited within these children.
