IN PLACES BETWEEN - The Robyn Herrington Memorial Short Story Contest
Calgary’s own Imaginative Fiction Writers' Association has announced their 2011 short story contest and the deadline of May 5th is right around the corner. Unlike many contests this one has no entry fee so there is truly nothing to lose by submitting your work.
If you don’t consider yourself a “speculative” fiction writer that’s ok – the guidelines only ask that it include “something weird”. Speaking of guidelines, here is the link to IFWA’s contest page with full details.
Another unique aspect of this competition is that it will publish the top 5 stories in the In Places Between chapbook, so the chances of recognition are more than double what most competitions offer. It also has a separate division for high school students, so be sure to tell any budding writers in the family.
Curious about the calibre and content of past winners? Visit the 4th Floor of the Central library where our local history collection holds the 2008 and 2009 chapbook publications of all the winning stories.
