Getting Started with Freegal Music

Freegal is a free music service that allows you to stream songs or download songs to your mobile device or computer. All you need is your Calgary Public Library card and PIN for access to about 7 million songs from thousands of artists on 28,000 labels, including the labels of Sony Music Entertainment.

There's no software to download, no account to create and no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions.

 

 

Getting Started

What do I need to use Freegal?

To use Freegal, you’ll need Calgary Public Library card that’s in good standing. Me Card members and non-Calgary residents should contact their local library to inquire about Freegal.

How do I use Freegal?

Freegal is easy to use. Go to the Calgary Public Library Freegal site (http://calgarypubliclibrary.freegalmusic.com) and enter your library card number and PIN and you're in!  Or download the Freegal app for Apple or Android devices.

How many songs can I stream or download?

You can download 3 songs per week and stream 3 hours of music per day. The download and streaming counters appear in the top-right corner of the display.

The limit is set so a maximum number of patrons may have equal access to the songs in Freegal. The “limit met” notification appears in place of the download link when you have used all of your downloads for the week.

How long can I keep the songs?

Once you've downloaded a song, you can keep it forever!

Which devices work with Freegal?

Freegal works on almost any computer, player, tablet or smartphone. The Freegal Music mobile app is free in the Apple App Store and in Google Play.
