Hi Everyone! Look at what just arrived at the Saddletowne Library!

This sculpture called “A Meaningful Life” is a very unique work displaying pictures and needle art transferred onto a metal background. The work combines creations by 24 Calgary artists who have developmental disabilities. Calgary artist Jeff De Boer worked with all of the artists to create this colorful and exciting sculpture. Come into the branch and have a look at this beautiful piece of art.

Art on the Go, Words on the Move!

Anyone who has done a quick google search of "Calgary arts" knows what an exciting and vibrant arts community we have. The Calgary Public Library loves to be part of this exciting community, and we're offering our customers a chance to show off their talents in visual and written art!

Saddletowne library has a "Words on the Go" journal and an "Art on the Move" sketchbook that we encourage you to sign out, and fill with your own personal art or literature! Our journal and sketchbook are located above the reference collection, so if you are in the branch feel free to take a look at the art done by your fellow Calgary Public Library members!

The art created in the journal and sketchbook become part of our library collection, so visitors to the Saddletowne branch can see what other local artists in the area are creating.

We hope that you take part in this fun art project at Saddletowne library! Remember, if another artist has the journal or sketchbook you can always put it on hold! If you want to place a hold on either of these items, search "Art on the Go" or "Words on the Move" and select "Saddletowne Library".

Happy creating!

Ideas for your old Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedias

Saddletowne's collections are way too new and pristine to stack into a book Christmas tree, but if you have a number of old books that you don't want anymore, here's an idea: turn them into art! For ideas, check out Lisa Occhipinti's The Repurposed Library: 33 Craft Projects that Give Old Books New Life.
