As the Community Outreach Librarian at the Shawnessy Library, I have been involved with the Early Childhood Mapping ("ECMap") Coalition in Calgary's Deep South for the past year. The mission of the Coalition is to provide information and promote healthy, early childhood development. Our coalition has active membership from service providers and parents in the following south Calgary communities: Midnapore, Sundance, Shawnessy, Evergreen, Bridlewood, McKenzie Lakes, Silverado, Walden, Cranston and Auburn Bay.
If you want to know how children in your community are developing, see the results here.
We have many things to celebrate after a year of work together. Here are a few:
- We developed a video message for the Alberta government:
We facilitated community conversations with parents and service providers;
We planned several play dates at the Shawnessy Library (see the program guide for upcoming dates);
We have started mapping the assets and resources in the Deep South;
- We have started planning a large, family event for January 2014 to celebrate healthy, early childhood development.
If anyone would like more information on how to get involved, contact our Coalition Coordinator, Juliana Ramirez at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Calgary Deep South Coalition is part of the First 2000 Days Network.
