Evil Villain- Dr. Cable's Story

Week 8:
by NinjaaWriter on Youth Read 2012 - 0 Comment(s)

Dr. Cable wasn't always "Dr. Cable".  She wasn't always an adult, wasn't always a Special, and definitely wasn't always a villain.

She began as just any other ugly. Staring longingly across the river at New Pretty Town. Waiting for that moment when she would turn 16, and finally become beautiful.

But Dr. Cable was, already, different. She was tricky. The type of ugly who would sneak out of bed at night and hoverboard across the river, crash Pretties parties, and even go down to the Rusty Ruins every now and then. She was the type of ugly that now would be turned Special.

Not long before the day she had been waiting for, Dr. Cable's twin sister, Aza, decided that she didn't want to be pretty, didn't want to be stupid, and definitely didn't want to lose herself. Dr. Cable, unwilling to leave her sister behind, escaped for the Rusty Ruins with Aza one night with another group of runaways, by hoverboard.

The Rusty Ruins weren't far. They made it within one night. Aza was astounded by the vastness of the wild, and Dr. Cable shared her delight in a life where no one could tell them what to do.

It hadn't even been a week when the hovercar showed up. It started as a usual morning. Dr. Cable and Aza ate breakfast with the group of runaways, enjoying the brilliant day. They were all staring up at the cloudless blue sky when a shadow crossed overhead. It was clear that it was the shadow of a hovercar.

What followed was complete chaos. Shouts echoed through the woods as Dr. Cable found herself being tugged into a cave where the other runaways waited. Dr. Cable scanned the darkness for the brilliant blue glow of Aza's eyes. But it was clear she was not there. She made to get up, but the others pulled her back.

"You'll get us all found out if they see where we are!" they whispered urgently. No matter how much Dr. Cable protested, she could not resist the grip of 7 people at once. She heard one desperate scream, one identical to Aza's, before the hovercar's engine was started and it zipped away. Distraught, Dr. Cable fought her way out of the cave, snatched her hoverboard, and flew away.

When Dr. Cable arrived back at the city, she was overcome with worry for Aza. She raced back to the Ugly dormitory, and burst into Aza's room. It was empty. She then ran into her own room and checked her Ping's. There was one, and it was from Aza.

"Hey. If you ever come back here, well, I hope you get this. A group of Pretties are going to be taking me somewhere. I don't know where, or why, or how, but they are. They only said something about "tests" and "lesions" and that was all. I'm sorry. Aza."

In a state of panic, Dr. Cable collapsed on the bed and wept until she heard a knock on the door. Tentatively, she wiped the tears from her face and walked to the door, opening it slowly. Outside was a team of pretties, their wide eyes staring at her, taking in her dark hair, narrow face, and slightly-too-small nose.

"Miss, you are coming with us. You are lucky that we are so... forgiving of your mistakes." and with this ominous announcement, Dr. Cable was taken to the Operation Room, and she became pretty. Once pretty, Dr. Cable forgot about Aza, or at least forgot that she mattered. For a while, that is, until she spotted someone that looked awfully familiar, someone that looked just like the runaway who had kept her from saving Aza. Overcome with anger, Dr. Cable thought her way out of the Pretty lesions that she had guessed about.

One day, the group of Pretties she had seen the day Aza disappeared arrived at her mansion. They talked about a special job for her, one that would use her talents to the fullest. Dr. Cable, against her will, was taken into the Operating Room again, and when she emerged, she felt much more real, her memories less fuzzy than they had been after the first operation. Dr. Cable became a plastic surgeon, turning uglies into pretties.

Slowly, all the anger, sorrow, regret, and worry drove her insane. In an unstable state, Dr. Cable began experimenting on young pretties. She discovered the lesions, and used this discovery to make an even crueler type of pretty: specials. To this day, Dr. Cable's one true motive for her cruel and evil actions can be blamed on one thing. That one day, out at the Rusty Ruins, ruined Dr. Cable more than she herself realized.

Literary Olympics Explained!

Week 11: Non-Fiction, End of the World or Read
by NinjaaWriter on Youth Read 2012 - 0 Comment(s)

Team Hogwarts: With their magic, Hermione, Ron, Harry, Ginny, Luna, and Neville could easily win every event. However, since magic is strictly forbidden at the Games, this is kind of out of the question. I think Team Hogwarts would excel in the shooting component because they know how to aim a wand, so they should know how to aim a gun. Their level of concentration and focus while doing magic would come in handy in this event. Harry would also do very well in the diving event, because did you see is moves during the Triwizard Tournament? That was a pretty cool dive.

Team Panem: Obviously Katniss is going to dominate the archery event. I mean, seriously. She can shoot the apple in a pig's mouth! That's kind of a no-brainer. Peeta will do really well in the shot put and weightlifting events because of his immense strength. It's harder than it looks to lift all those sacks of flour!

Team Dauntless: These guys aren't afraid of anything. They're entire faction focuses around being brave, so we have no cowardice here. Tris and Four would be awesome in fencing. Because of their stealth and skill, as well as their courage, they would do awesome in fencing. I also think they would be great at judo. I mean, seriously, during initiation to get into dauntless, you have to do all sorts of wrestling and crazy things. Oh, and if there was skydiving at the Olympics, these guys would dominate.

So who will rule the Games? Tune in to find out! This is NinjaaWriter signing off.

I think team Monsea would excel at wrestling. Because Katsa is graced with survival, she will be able to get out of any sticky situation, so her chance of losing is about zero. Moreover, Po's grace allows him to interprete his opponent's moves before the person makes it. With both of them on the Monsea team, winning would be a piece of cake.
