Youth Read 2013 Challenges banner

How'd it go?

It's hard to believe but summer is over...and that means Youth Read is too. We'd love to hear what you thought about the challenges, website, and prizes so that we can make it even better next year! Please take a few minutes and give us:

your feedback

Youth Read is finished, but the fun doesn't have to end - you can still show us your creative side with Teens Create, tell us what you're reading for our Teen Picks list, and keep an eye on the Teen Zone Blog for future challenges and contests.

Week 8: Geek Week

KatOxymoronic, Roxy Doodlebug, Carter A Sieben, Green, doodles@500, & Sukhjeet - you have all won draws in the last few weeks but we're having a hard time contacting you - please email us at teenservices@calgarypubliclibrary.com to claim your prizes!

bonus prizeChallenge 1: Face It

Bonus Prize Challenge! Complete this challenge for a chance to win a Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S instant camera this week.

Ever wanted to be a cover girl (or boy)? Here’s your chance to picture yourself as a literary masterpiece. Just take a bookface picture of yourself or a friend, like the ones above (hint – try the biographies if you’re stuck, or check out this list on goodreads.com). Easy to do, but hard to do well!

Challenge 2: Fanfic

Write us a short scene featuring your favourite characters.

Challenge 3: Read!

Books to the ceiling
Books to the sky
My piles of books are a mile high
How I love them
How I need them
I'll have a long beard by the time I read them.

- Books To the Ceiling by Arnold Lobel

Don’t wait for your beard to grow – READ! If you choose this as your option, just select "Reading hours" as your submission type on the contest submission form.

Challenge 4: What’s Your Geek?

It’s time to let your geeky side shine! Your geek = anything that you can (and usually do) geek out about. One of our favourite YA authors, John Green, said it best (see the pic-->) - so be unironically enthusiastic and tell us (in words, video or pictures) what it is that you're passionate about. (Some of our geeks, in no particular order, are tabletop games, Doctor Who, LEGO, and Alpha Flight. Yes, Alpha Flight.)

When you're ready, submit your challenges using the link at the side or click here.
