Autho-ity

Week 6: Mix It Up
by DustyRose on Youth Read 2013 - 0 Comment(s)

If I could have tea with an author it would definetely be JK Rowling, as she wrote my favourite books of all time! Although fantasy is not typically my favourite genre the Harry Potter series is my favourite of all time! I love the characters and how they grow throughout the story. If I got to talk with JK Rowling I would want to talk to her about so many things, but some of the most important (to me) would be:

  • The idea! I would ask JK what exactly happened when she was sitting on a train, and what aspects of the story and characters came to her first.
  • I would also like to know how she built the story, and what parts came easier to write than others.
  • I would also ask her about her life and what experiences in her life really affected the Harry Potter series.
  • And I would also be very interested to know what character JK Rowling thinks is most like herself!
Of course I could go on and on, but these are some of the things I would make sure to ask! And of course in typical British fashion biscuits and tea, or maybe in Harry Potter's case a mug of butterbeer (:

TRANSFORMATION CLASS

There's Still Time...
by Scarlett-Writer on Youth Read 2013 - 0 Comment(s)

I wish my school had a transformation class, so that students didn't have to spend so much time getting ready. Transformation works like this:

1. Find a picture of a desirable trait( ex: eye makeup look, school outift, hair style, jewellry).

2. Say the spell:Hokus pokus, take this......(desirable thing from picture)......and let ...(whoever)... have it.

3. You will immediately gain the thing you wanted, from the picture!

My stampede summer scene

Above: Food booth; stampede 2013

One of my favorite events this summer was Stampede 2013. I was proud to see our city pull through the flood and give a very sucessful 10-day cultural event. One of the highlights of Stampede is usually the food which is very delicious! The candy apples from the food booth above were heavenly and the cotton candy set the bar pretty high; also the vendors were very lovely. Overall, was very impressed with everything.

Challenge 2: DIY

I made this cake for my cousins when came over. You can't see in the picture, but first I made pink strawberry cupcakes. then I made a white cake batter. I aranged the pink cupckes in the bottom of the baking dish and pourd the white batter on top. And baked it. When it came out, and was cut, it was a white cake with pink circles throught out the cake. It tasted good too!

Challenge 3: Author-ity (week3)

There's Still Time...

My favourite author is France Hodgson Burnett and this is what I’d do if I got to have a stroll in the park with her…

I had arranged to go to the park with Mrs. Burnett. I was nervous, I had never met her before and she IS famous, right?  I brought along all my copies of my books written by her. Which included, A Little Princess, The Secret Garden, Little Lord Fauntleroy, Sara Crewe (that is the shorter version of A Little Princess that Burnett wrote herself), and That Lass o’ Lowrie’s.

When I got to the park, I was a little (more like a lot) early, so I started reading one of the books I had carried there. By the time she got there, I had finished ¾ of my book. We started chatting about her books, I asked her plenty of question, like, how did you come up with the names for your characters and for your titles? Also, questions like, were you scared when you sent your first book to be published?

Then she asked me, if I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. I answered with a smile, not only when I grow up, but now too. I asked a few more questions, then sadly told her I had to leave.

We bid each other good-by. And on my way home I had lots to think about.
